Key Terms
LGBT: acronym that collectively refers to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender
community.
LGBTQ: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning.
LESBIAN: term most widely used in the English language to describe sexual and romantic attraction between female.
GAY: term that primarily refers to a homosexual person or the trait of being
homosexual.
BISEXUAL: is romantic attraction, sexual attraction or sexual behavior toward both
males and females.
TRANSGENDER: term applied to a variety of individuals, behaviors, and groups involving tendencies to vary from culturally conventional gender roles. Transgender is the state of one's gender identity not matching one's assigned sex.
QUEER: an umbrella term for sexual and gender minorities.
HOMOSEXUAL: romantic attraction, sexual attraction, or sexual activity between members of the same sex or gender.
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: enduring personal quality that inclines people to feel romantic or sexual attraction (or a combination of these) to persons of the opposite sex or
gender, the same sex or gender, or to both sexes or more than one gender.
